TCS AI Study: 84% of Companies See Productivity as AI's Key Benefit

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) latest global research reveals that 84% of surveyed executives believe the primary benefit of investing in artificial intelligence (AI) is enhanced productivity. However, only 10% of companies allow AI agents to make autonomous decisions without supervision, indicating ongoing concerns regarding governance and security.

Research Background and Key Findings

The survey, which covers 25 countries worldwide, indicates that security, risk management, and governance are the top priorities for companies deploying AI. While businesses have begun to realize tangible benefits from AI-assisted work, they still fall short in granting AI greater autonomy.

Amit Kapur, TCS Chief AI and Service Transformation Officer, stated that companies have made significant progress in the large-scale application of AI, with AI's role gradually shifting from assisting employees to taking on more functions and autonomously executing tasks when appropriate.

The Importance of Security and Governance

The report highlights that as companies increasingly allow AI to access more applications and workflows, establishing robust security and governance frameworks becomes more urgent. The survey shows that 90% of respondents consider model independence an important factor in AI investment, while 34% of companies view AI sovereignty as a high or very high risk.

Additionally, 39% of companies are still evaluating whether AI projects can create sufficient value relative to computing costs, and 44% of respondents noted that critical business knowledge remains with individual employees, which may limit AI's effectiveness.
