UiPath released a report titled "Beyond Applications: Orchestrating Agent-Based Enterprises" on September 11, 2026, which conducted an in-depth investigation into the current state of agent-based artificial intelligence deployment and business orchestration. This global survey covered 590 C-level executives and IT professionals from large enterprises, revealing that while companies have completed initial proof of concepts, many are still stuck in pilot phases, struggling to scale AI applications across the enterprise.

Challenges Highlighted by the Survey Results

The survey indicated that fewer than one-third (31%) of respondents reported that AI is fully integrated into their business. Further analysis found that only 35% of companies have adopted AI to a limited extent within specific teams, while 11% remain in pilot mode, conducting only limited experiments. Particularly in Hong Kong, as financial regulators expand the local "GenA.I. Sandbox++" program, companies face a globally observable "pilot hell" situation when attempting to scale these projects.

Solutions for Business Orchestration

UiPath's survey data shows that business orchestration is a key solution to address these challenges. Among respondents who have fully integrated orchestration capabilities across their enterprises, 89% reported that the outcomes of their agent-based implementations met or exceeded their expectations for return on investment. The specific benefits experienced by these companies include:

  • Giving employees more time to handle high-value tasks (51%)
  • Enhancing integration between applications (47%)
  • Improving oversight and management of business workflows (44%)
  • Increasing responsiveness to customers (42%)
  • Achieving automation of complex business workflows (37%)

The next 12 months are expected to be a period of significant growth for global enterprises in AI agents. More than one-third (36%) of respondents anticipate that AI agents will play a crucial role in enterprise workflows. The majority (52%) of respondents indicated that they are applying AI in "hybrid" workflows that combine static and dynamic processes.

However, currently, only 29% of companies report that orchestration capabilities are fully integrated into their workflows. Companies prioritizing orchestration capabilities will lay a solid foundation for success in the next era of agent-based operations.
