Google Survey: One in Five Hongkongers Are AI Power Users, Supporting SME Growth

On August 21, 2026, Google released the latest survey results, showing that Hong Kong citizens have become one of the most AI-savvy user groups, with one in five (21%) identified as AI "super users." This study, commissioned by Google and conducted by Public First, reveals the significant development opportunities that AI presents for Hong Kong and local SMEs.

Hong Kong Citizens' Enthusiasm for AI

The survey indicates that Hong Kong citizens have a strong interest in time and administrative AI agents, particularly adults aged late 20s to mid-40s who are the most enthusiastic. Over 80% of super users understand how to use meta-prompting and request AI to self-review generated content, with nearly two-thirds of respondents willing to delegate entire tasks to AI, demonstrating the widespread application of AI in daily life.

AI Empowers SMEs to Unlock Economic Potential

According to the research, the impact of AI on SMEs is profound, with an estimated economic value of up to HK$65 billion to be unlocked by 2035. SMEs are expected to leverage AI to expand into overseas markets, potentially generating an additional HK$590 billion in export revenue. Google integrates generative AI into everyday office tools through Google Workspace with Gemini, assisting businesses in enhancing productivity.

Enhancing Social AI Literacy and Skills

The survey shows that 88% of Hong Kong parents believe that learning to use AI safely is as important as mastering mathematics or English. Google is also training 8,000 local educators and students to promote the widespread adoption of AI skills.

Yau Ming Tak, General Manager of Sales and Operations at Google Hong Kong, stated that as Hong Kong enters the era of AI agents, assisting SMEs in accelerating AI adoption will be key to enhancing overall economic competitiveness.
