Suzhou-Guangzhou Science and Technology and Industry Integration Innovation Centre (Guangzhou) officially launched to drive technological development in the Greater Bay Area

Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Company (HKSTP) today announced the official launch of the "Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science and Technology and Industrial Integration Innovation Centre (Guangzhou)" (Guangzhou Centre) located in the Yuegang Cloud Valley in Nansha, Guangzhou, in collaboration with Guangzhou Yuexiu Group Co., Ltd. (Yuexiu Group) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). This is the first centre established within mainland China under the "One Platform, Two Centres" model, aiming to deepen the integration of technology and industry in the Greater Bay Area.

Establishment of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Collaborative Innovation Platform

The Guangzhou Centre, following the opening of the Hong Kong Centre in Hong Kong Science and Technology Park in March this year, marks the full integration of the two centres, accelerating the transformation and industrialisation of scientific and technological achievements. The platform operates under the "One Platform, Two Centres, N Funds" collaboration model, promoting technological innovation, achievement transformation, industrial synergy and capital linkage.

The Hong Kong Centre focuses on cutting-edge research and international collaboration, while the Guangzhou Centre prioritises the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, with a particular emphasis on key industries such as life sciences and health, artificial intelligence and robotics, microelectronics, and new energy. The division of responsibilities between the two centres complements each other, forming a cross-border innovation ecosystem of "technology R&D — achievement transformation — industrial implementation", helping Greater Bay Area companies access international markets through Hong Kong, while supporting Hong Kong tech firms to enter the Guangzhou and broader mainland market.

Advantages of the Tripartite Collaboration

Wong Wing-shiu, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP, stated that the platform aims to assist Guangzhou enterprises in leveraging Hong Kong's strengths in research, finance and internationalisation to expand global markets, while also helping Hong Kong tech enterprises enter Guangzhou. Through the linkage of the two centres, a bidirectional cycle of "bringing in and going out" will be formed.

Lin Zhaoyuan, Deputy Party Secretary, Deputy Chairman and General Manager of Yuexiu Group, pointed out that the Guangzhou Centre will connect the strengths of both sides, becoming a "connector" for the integration of science and industry in the Greater Bay Area, promoting the matching of talent from Hong Kong and Macao projects with the industrial needs in Nansha, and advancing the transformation of innovative achievements.

Additionally, Professor Zheng Guangting, Vice President (Research and Development) of HKUST, emphasised that the launch of the Guangzhou Centre provides an important platform for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and will further promote the mission of knowledge transfer and achievement transformation.

Promoting Special Collaboration Projects

Since its establishment in March this year, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science and Technology and Industrial Integration Innovation Centre has completed four rounds of project evaluation, promoting over 20 projects to入驻 or connect with the two centres, and is currently advancing three special collaboration projects:

• Guangzhou-Shenzhen BIO CONNECT Life Sciences Co-Creation Program: Matching life sciences enterprises with research and internationalisation resources in Hong Kong and application scenarios in Nansha, Guangzhou.
• Guangzhou-Shenzhen Yuexiu Smart Manufacturing Ecosystem: Leveraging a RMB 1 billion venture capital fund to promote more innovative achievements to take root and flourish along the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Science and Technology Corridor.
• Guangzhou-Shenzhen CO-IDEATION Joint Incubation Program: Connecting the incubation experience of HKSTP with the scientific research and entrepreneurial teams of Guangzhou universities, promoting early-stage technological ideas to develop into minimum viable products.

HKSTP, Yuexiu Group and HKUST will continue to leverage their respective strengths in the innovation ecosystem, industrial capital resources and scientific research talent, through regular project recruitment, joint evaluation and scenario application verification, to comprehensively build a sustainable cross-border collaboration mechanism.
