Visa and Bank of China Hong Kong Collaborate on GenA.I. Sandbox++ to Enhance Secure Proxy Business Payments

Visa announced today that it is collaborating with Bank of China (Hong Kong) to participate in the Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenA.I.) Sandbox++, advancing secure and reliable agent-based business payments in Hong Kong. Through its agent-based business platform, Visa Intelligent Commerce (VIC), Visa will provide the necessary infrastructure and risk management to support AI agents in securely searching, executing, and completing transactions.

Pilot Program and Partners

This pilot program will conduct proof-of-concept testing aimed at connecting the AI intelligent agent from Bank of China Hong Kong within the BoC Pay+ ecosystem to service platforms such as OpenRice and China Mobile Hong Kong. In a risk-controlled sandbox environment, it seeks to promote a secure, user-authorized agent-based business experience.

Building an Inter-Industry Ecosystem

Visa will leverage its global payment network, tokenization technology, and expertise in secure e-commerce to support AI agent-initiated payments within a regulated framework during the pilot program. This initiative will bring together financial institutions, dining platforms, and telecommunications providers under a single regulatory framework, demonstrating how cross-industry collaboration can drive meaningful digital transformation.

Visa's Managing Director for Hong Kong and Macau, Eric Lam, stated that when consumers authorize technology to execute on their behalf, trust becomes the most critical cornerstone. Visa's role is to provide a secure and reliable payment infrastructure that allows AI agents to conduct transactions safely under consumer authorization, ensuring that each transaction has comprehensive safeguards, transparency, and user control.

Applications of Visa Intelligent Commerce

By integrating the BoC Pay+ ecosystem, Bank of China Hong Kong will introduce AI intelligent agents in the pilot program, offering various functionalities, including personalized offers for cardholders based on Visa rewards and promotions, recommendations for products and services, and smart payments. Visa Intelligent Commerce (VIC) will provide the necessary technical framework for this proof-of-concept test, ensuring that AI agents only execute payment instructions pre-set by consumers.
