On November 4, 2026, FedEx announced the addition of five weekly Boeing 777F cargo flights between the Asia-Pacific region and the United States to meet peak season demand, increasing freight capacity by 567,000 kilograms (approximately 1.25 million pounds). This expansion aims to support the development of the semiconductor, artificial intelligence supply chain, high-end electronic commerce, and advanced industrial manufacturing sectors.

New Routes and Operational Model

The new routes will operate through three different paths, connecting FedEx's Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou with several regional hubs, including Shanghai, Osaka, and Clark in the Philippines, via Anchorage, Alaska, and ultimately arriving at FedEx's global super hub in Memphis, Tennessee. The additional capacity will enable businesses in Southeast Asian markets such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as those in Hong Kong, to more effectively expand into the US market.

Addressing Growing Trade Demand

According to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), cargo demand on the Asia to North America route recorded a year-on-year growth of 9% in July 2026, making it the fastest-growing major air cargo route globally. As retailers, manufacturers, and technology companies prepare for the year-end demand surge, stable and reliable air freight capacity has become a competitive advantage.

Salil Chari, President of FedEx Asia-Pacific, stated that the new capacity comes at a critical time as customers prepare for increased freight volumes during the year-end peak season, with businesses requiring reliable capacity, speed, and global network connectivity to serve customers and maintain smooth supply chain operations.

This expansion not only strengthens FedEx's transportation network in the Asia-Pacific region but also provides businesses with greater flexibility and capacity to respond to changing market demands.
