FedEx announced on 13 October 2026 that it is further expanding its procurement of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through a new purchase agreement. Under the agreement, FedEx expects to supply more than 20 million gallons of neat SAF at five US airports by the end of 2027.
Airports and blend ratios covered by new agreement
The agreement covers FedEx operations at the following five airports: Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Oakland International Airport (OAK), Miami International Airport (MIA), New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Depending on conditions at each airport, the blended SAF supply ratio is expected to range between 30% and 50%.
FedEx sustainability targets
FedEx aims to replace 30% of its jet fuel supply with blended fuel by 2030 and continues to expand the use of SAF across its air cargo network. Since 2025, FedEx has received approximately 5 million gallons of neat SAF through related agreements and deployed a combined 16.5 million gallons of blended SAF at five US airports. With the new procurement phase underway, the share of blended SAF in the jet fuel used at the above airports will increase significantly.
FedEx Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Environmental Affairs Karen Blanks Ellis said: "SAF is one of the most effective decarbonisation solutions available to aviation today and a key measure in advancing our emissions reduction goals. Driving market development requires a reliable, affordable and sustainable fuel supply system."
This new agreement not only advances FedEx's expansion of SAF use across its air network but also demonstrates real market demand for SAF. As the SAF market develops, FedEx will continue to evaluate fuel supply, infrastructure and economics to ensure the needs of its air network are met.
